Setting up
Groups and Kit Relationships (2)
To build the kit/group you use the next screen to
tell whether this is a new or existing root item for a kit or group, or
whether you are adding this item to an existing group. The computer will search for an existing
group record and bring it into the highlighted Bill of Materials or Kit/Group
list page, with the existing components and their functions shown. Just tab to the desired space to edit an item
number or function. Adding a function is
done by tabbing to the first blank space.
If no existing group record is found for a
prospective group item (assuming, again, that the basic item record is present),
the system creates one. In either case
(added/edited, or first item for a group), a list of possible functions will
appear. Choose the first function you
are interested in, and choose/type in the stock item number for the item which
will most likely be chosen to perform that function. (In computers, for
example; If your most common hard drive
size is for a two Gigabyte drive, choose Hard Drive as the function and
enter/choose your most popular 2 gig hard drive brands stock item number in
the stock number space presented). Dont
worry that there may be other choices as well.
You will have the opportunity to add the alternates later.
Repeat the process for each function which makes up
the group. For example (in furniture),
in an upholstered living room group;
Choose the seating function for a sofa first. Repeat it for a loveseat and, if it may be
added, for a chair. Choose the table
function three times if three tables are to be included, and the lamp function
twice to add two lamps. Choose (Included
in Price/Not Included) for each item, whichever applies.
When the group is fully specified, choose Done. A second screen will be shown allowing entry
of overall information about the group.
You may now scroll through the functions you have chosen, and add items
to any/all of them. These items will
show up as alternate choices on the selection screens. The ratings you give to the preference will
affect the position of each item on the choice list for each function or
option. Note that the first item you
entered will be listed first.
If you do not wish to offer additional options for
each function you may exit this screen by choosing Done Overall. Otherwise, choose Done or press
<Esc>ape for each item when you have entered the choices using the left
and right arrow keys to navigate from option to option. When done with all
options and functions and the group/kit is fully specified, choose Done
Overall.
While this process can be time consuming, it will
prove extremely helpful in expediting customer sales and maximizing customer
satisfaction (Such as at times when a customer is standing in front of you, and
perceived competence and speed is crucial).
Moreover, your inventory and ordering will be maintained
automatically, or at least with a minimum of effort.
