Setting up Groups and Kit Relationships

From the main menu, you can assign group item numbers (thereby allowing the group or kit to be ordered and priced as one item), and establish for items a kit of parts (each with its own item number), so that inventory is properly accounted for. Moreover, the kits are flexible, so that different parts can be chosen on the fly.

The set up of kits is not a trivial process. You may want to speak with your HOPE help agent about it. The information you will be adding or choosing includes the root item number for each kit, the functions within the kit, and one or more item numbers to perform each function (You can also assign preferences for each item which performs a function, thereby ranking them on the display). Moreover, you can run your enterprise without creating kit relationships (You must then, of course, enter inventory quantities of items used when building and selling kits directly). Kits, however, automate the processes of facilitating sales, tracking inventory, creating purchase orders and, in general, providing tools for successful management.

To set up kits, choose Build Kits and Groups from the Stock Edit menu.

The first screen you will see provides some introductory information and offers help. The next key press shows the scrolling list of all items for which stock items have been created and stock numbers assigned (including those with zero balance). As during any stock sale, you may segment the list by category in order to make it smaller to pick from as you wish (The sub-categories are choosable using function keys 1-5). The breakdown is described on the bottom of the screen.

The list is scrolled using the mouse or arrow keys. When the item to be included in a group (or for which a kit is to be created) is highlighted, press Enter (Or F7) to choose it.

NOTE: The group item, if it never existed before, must have been created already. Use the Record Items Received option from the Maintenance menu (with zero quantity)to create the group item. You may also create the base group price there. That price may be simply the sum of the prices of the basic components, or more, or less. As you add items to the group, you will be asked if their prices are to be added to the kit price (When selected as options), or whether they are already included.

In some cases, you may wish to add only a part of the optional items normal retail price. You can reach the proper total price with the discount calculation (Blue square pricing) as normally available on any quote, sale or order.
