Using the built in Calculator

The HOPE calculator has been made to be both useful and simple.

When you press Ctrl-C (Hold down the Ctrl key and press C) at almost any time, the calculator will pop up toward the right hand side of the screen. See the example below. Don't worry about text or numbers that are covered up. They are still there, and will show up again after you press Esc, or press Q at the end of a calculation to quit the calculator.

The amount of the last total from the calculator is saved to a "clip board. To enter it into an order, quote, letter or message, press F8 with the computer "cursor" at the location where you wish the number to appear. You can also re-enter it into the calculator in the same way by pressing F8 when the calculator is showing.

The calculator recognizes the basic keys +, -, /, and *, for adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplying respectively. To complete a calculation, press the = key. All in all, the calculator resembles an adding machine tape on the screen, displaying intermediate results as you go.

The calculator will prompt you, asking if you wish (A) Another Calculation or (Q) Quit. Pressing F7 when the calculator is displayed will turn printing on and subsequent entries will be echoed to the printer as well. (F7 is a toggle switch, so pressing it again will turn printing off).
