Point of Sale Pricing

Since information entered at the point of sale should be complete for both management and customer purposes, you cannot change a price "on the fly" in the POS System. Instead you enter a "price adjustment", which can be either a discount or an upcharge.

On a sale from stock, a discount amount is entered as "99 Discount", with a quantity of one and a minus amount, on a separate line on the stock sale cash register grid. If desired, and there is enough room on the screen, you can enter "line item" discounts on individual items on separate lines.

On the custom order pad, the last question, after all line items and free form information has been entered, is "Adjustments?". The "Any Adjustments? (D = NO TAX) " question will pop up on the screen, with a letter N shown following. You may type the letter Y (Yes, there are adjustments, and the order is taxable), N (No, there are no adjustments, but compute sale tax at the normal rate), or D (there may be or not be adjustments, but offer a box for them, and skip the normal tax step).

After you type a letter, or hit <Enter> to accept N, the "default" choice, the system will continue. If you have typed D or Y, a colored box will appear for entering the amount of the discount or upcharge. A discount is entered as an amount with a minus sign. You do not need to compute sales tax. Based on the code you have given, the invoice total will be computed properly. If there are no adjustments, and D is to skip sales tax only, enter 0 for the amount and press enter.

An adjustment will also be needed when you have had to edit one or more item prices manually. For example, systems as items are priced at 0.00. You compute the custom system price, and "type over" the 0.00 with the proper total amount. Then sum the total of all adjustments, and enter that amount after answering Y to the "Any Adjustments" question.

If a custom order is non taxable, type "Non-Taxable" in the free form portion of the custom order.

Select D at Any Adjustments? and compute and enter price adjustments normally. No tax will be added. Attach a copy of the customer's tax exemption form to the store copy of the receipt.
